The purpose of this lesson plan is to introduce children to the concepts of sound and music. Through these lessons and activities, students will be able to explain how sound is produced as a result of vibrations. Students will also be able to differentiate between types of pitches and identify what causes those differences by making their own instruments. Students will be given small daily assessments and hands on project will be their formal assessment for the week.

Understanding Vibration and Pitch
Vibration and Pitch
Which part or parts of the cricket in the video segment vibrate to create sound? What are some other sounds you can make? Choose one. Does the sound have a high or low pitch? What is the volume of the sound -- is it loud or soft? When you talk or sing, which part of your body vibrates? Go on a sound walk. Make a list of the various sounds you hear. What is vibrating to create each of these sounds? Describe the pitch of each sound. Describe the volume of each sound.
